In the wake of installation of international Globe programs in Sri Lanka, the education department introduced it to the schools. The Maliyadeva Globe society is one of the first that have been established in the Sri Lankan schools. Our Globe society is engaged in many activities that enhance the environmental knowledge through many scientific researches.

Many environmental research programs have been launched from the Globe society that was established on 28/11/2002 through the hard work of many. Due to the uniqueness of many activities and programs that have been conducted the globe society is now really famous among the school children. Another major step was taken by the Globe society when it launched its own website on 30/3/2003. Due to this huge leap our Globe society was able to get the needed information from the International Globe program.

As we said earlier there were many programs that have been launched from our Globe society. Weather reports are been collected daily from the metrological department in our school and update our web page.

We are also endeavor to carry out studies on four main streams as specified by Globe society on Water, Soil, Forestry and Air.We help students by providing necessary guidance to carry out their research works on above four areas and we have selected Kurunegala Lake as a pilot location to carry out our studies on Water sector while selecting Tampana for Soil and forestry. We also educate our brother students by broadcasting some valuable information on weather through public broadcasting system.

Annually we celebrate “Globe day “with the participation of Globe and non- Globe schools in our area and our aim is to educate non globe schools on activities of Glob society and to introduce this program to those schools enhancing their knowledge on environment.

It’s a pleasure to note that we were the first to hoist a National globe day and a work shop in Sri Lanka in 2005 under the guidance from Department of education. This was a clear indication of dedication and enthusiasms of our members. Our member ship grows day by day and now we have almost 4 times as we started.

Globe activities also help students to broaden their knowledge on environment and undoubtedly help on subject streams such as Bio science, Agricultural science and also on Internet and Computer Knowledge.
