The fame of the Globe Club, around the world was escalating when in 1998, Sri lanka joined as the 86th member country. During that time the government established Globe Club in several schools in Sri Lanka. Maliyadeva College was among those few.
The first GLOBE Club meeting of our school was held on 24th of November 2002 under the guidance of Mr. H.M.G. Herath and Mrs. Nandanee Ranaweera at the science laboratory. 53 students attended that meeting and appointed club officials for the year 2003. So due to the aspiring work done by the club we were registered as a Globe school under the “International Globe Programme”.
Then onwards, the Globe club of Maliyadeva has established itself as one of the most active and important societies within our school. Every year we have hosted special programmes which
2004 – Hosting the first Globe day.
2005 – Hosting the first all island Globe Camp.
2006 – Hosting a workshop on weather hazards and damage control.
2007 – Hosting the Globe day and a workshop on hydrology
2007 – Launching the first Globe website by a Sri Lankan school.
2008/09 - Providing supplies to a school in a remote area.
take a special place. Other than this our Globe Club broadcasts daily weather reports which have been collected within our school sit. The club also provides many opportunities for individual projects done by A/L students.
